In 1787 President George Washington directed work to begin on Portland Head Light. Congress appropriated and Alexander Hamilton approved $1,500 to pay for it as part of the new U.S. Congress' 9th law. Originally the lighthouse was intended to by 60 feet tall, but once it was built the builders realized you wouldn't be able to see it from the south so they made it 20 feet taller.
All postcards are the standard 4 inch by 6 inch size, printed on heavy duty, durable card stock. They look and feel awesome in person.
